For Omonia the Reset-Strategy means a comprehensive restart and a return to the historic and in the collective consciousness of Athens Citizens anchored circularity.
Furthermore, the Reset-Strategy means a reduction of design (furnishing) of public space and at the same time a maximization of contents and the possibilties of use as well as an enhanced dynamic alignment – with dynamic contents, a dynamic void in the middle of the square, dynamic concerning a possible further development.
The strategy of a comprehensive and 'radical' intervention is the best fitting crisis strategy for Omonia. The architectural ring expands beyond the streets but at the same time the unpleasent noise of the vehicular traffic is pushed into the background by sound barriers (water fountains). Only the suggested dimension of this architectural intervention is able to turn around the emphasis of this place – from vehicular traffic to people in public space. It results in a positively loaded monumentality that is able to break the precarious situation at this place and can become a new symbol for the city and its people. The production of the 'ring' should take place in the dockyards of Athens shipping companies and should be donated by them.
The preliminary result is a new defined initial status. The first aim and strategic orientation is not to oust social problems but to create a kind of 'social center' - with social programs and 'bottom up' concepts - to get a grip on Omonia and its surrounding.
